Time-Step Volume-Preserving Control of Chemical Reactors

We present a general control and optimization strategy based on time-step state space volume control. This is performed by maintaining the divergence of the system close to zero. The on-line implementation is shown for batch chemical reactors and the simulated results are compared with a traditional control scheme.

Boundary Control of Chemical Tubular Reactors

In this paper a globally stabilizing boundary feedback control law for an arbitrarily fine discretization of a nonlinear PDE model of a chemical tubular reactor is presented. The objective is to stabilize an unstable steady–state of the system using boundary control of temperature and concentration on the inlet side of the reactor. We discretize the original nonlinear PDE model in space using f...

Backstepping control of chemical tubular reactors

In this paper, a globally stabilizing boundary feedback control law for an arbitrarily fine discretization of a nonlinear PDE model of a chemical tubular reactor is presented. A model that assumes no radial velocity and concentration gradients in the reactor, the temperature gradient described by use of a proper value of the effective radial conductivity, a homogeneous reaction, the properties ...

Vibrational control and flatness of chemical reactors

Forces oscillations introduced in the input flow rate of non flat continuous stirred-tank reactors (CSTR with 3 independent species) are shown to result in an averaged flat system with linearizing output independent of the special form of the kinetics laws.

Optimal Control of Dispersive Tubular Chemical Reactors: Part Ii

While in the first paper of this series of two, optimal jacket fluid temperature control profiles have been derived for a family of dispersive tubular chemical reactors, the performance of these optimal profiles is further assessed in this second part. First, the performance of the optimal bang-bang control is compared with that of a more easily implementable constant jacket fluid temperature a...
